    - Essex County Club consists of an 18-hole golf course, practice facilities, eleven grass tennis courts, and ten clay tennis courts.

    Facility Description:  Blue Rock Golf Course is a championship Par-3 golf course designed by Geoffrey Cornish located on Cape Cod. The course is owned and operated by The Davenport Companies, a fourth-generation, family-owned business which has been in business for over fifty years and owns and operates more than a dozen companies throughout New England.     Duties Description:

    • Maintains all leased grounds and course maintenance equipment under direction from Superintendent.

    • Schedules, trains, supervises and evaluates all personnel assigned in this department

    • Assists in the annual review of all green and grounds staff.

    • Assists in supervision of all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course

    • Assists mechanics in the operation of the equipment repair shop

    • Assists in the preparation of annual budget for department; takes corrective action as necessary to help in meeting budget goals

    • Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation and watering systems

    • Maintains course in proper playing condition as directed by the Green and Grounds Committee.

    • Works closely with the Superintendent of the Bald Peak Land Company and Bald Peak Colony Club on matters of common concern with respect to operations and objectives of the course.

    • Implements and enforces comprehensive safety program for employees, members and guests on course in compliance with local, state and federal laws

    • Maintains complete, detailed and accurate records on maintenance quality, including without limitation, inventory, payroll, weather data, pesticide and fertilizer applications and equipment failures

    • Communicates as necessary with golf professional staff to discuss conditions of facilities, maintenance plans and scheduled events

    • Insures that chemicals, petroleum and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Maintains required records and strives to minimize the use of chemicals and petroleum products

    • Attends turf conferences, equipment shows, workshops and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations and changes that could affect the department’s operations

    • Assist in the preparation and revision of grounds manual with direction from the Green and Grounds Committee

    • Maintains procedures for preservation of supplies and equipment and performs periodic inventory reviews to monitor use and prevent loss or theft.

    • Assists in the establishment of short and long-range plans for the golf course

    • Oversees all course construction

    • Conducts daily facility and Land Company grounds security checks ensuring accurate inventory of equipment and structures

    • Continued professional development and training activities

    • Assists in Management of all infrastructure systems; lake water provisioning, including pump house, golf course irrigation supply and resident lake water supply; septic; roads; drainage; signage; beach facilities; structures (docks and non-leased buildings). This includes maintenance and repair of these systems, and if outside contractors are required, overseeing their work. It also includes maintaining documentation for these systems and development of any other records necessary for ongoing maintenance and repairs.

    • Manages and participates in snow removal from roadways and resident driveways.

    • Assist in oversight of tree removal requests from Land Company residents.

    • Assists in management of all resident services, including trash collection and requested residential work.

    Facility Name:        Hopkinton Country Club

    Facility Description: Hopkinton Country Club was redesigned in 2002 to create a par 71, 6711 yard Championship golf course with a slope rating of 136 from the blue tees. The renovations at Hopkinton Country Club were directed by Welsh Golf Course Architect Ian Scott-Taylor. Ian’s goal for Hopkinton Country Club was to create an old-world golf course, where strategy plays a key role in the golfers shot selection. Along with the 18-hole golf course HCC consists of 450 members with a practice facility, pool facility, tennis courts, and bocce court.

    In the Fall of 2020/Spring of 2021 HCC will be undergoing multiple projects including an ongoing tree removal program, rebuilding various bunkers in house, extensive drainage improvements, along with many future capital projects.

    The responsibilities of the Assistant Superintendent are to assist the Superintendent to achieve our yearly agronomic and staffing goals which include, but are not limited to, crew management, water management, fertilizer and chemical applications, drainage installation, tree removal, irrigation repair, and numerous agronomic and cultural practices.

    Experience Desired: A minimum of 3 year’s experience at either a private or high-end public golf facility are required.

    Special Skills: Must possess or attain MA pesticide applicator's license prior to 4/1/2021

    Applicant must be willing to work long hours during our peak golf season, which runs from April 1 through November 15. Knowledge of the game of golf a must.

    Experience in managing poa/bent pushup style greens a plus.

    George Wright Golf Course is an 18 hole Municipal golf course owned and operated by The City of Boston Parks and Recreation Department. It is a Classic Donald Ross Designed Golf Course, presently ranked as the #1 Municipal Golf Course in Massachusetts, and consistently in the top 30 municipal golf courses in the US. George Wright averages about 40, 000 rounds of golf per season.

    The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a full time, year around position which reports directly to The Golf Course Superintendent and indirectly to The Director of Golf.

    The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with The Superintendent managing all aspects of golf course operations, with the specific goal of providing the Assistant the tools and knowledge to eventually become a golf course superintendent.

    The following are some examples of tasks The Assistant will perform/assist the Superintendent in:

    - Fertility applications
    - Plant protection/spray applications to greens, tees and fairway/roughs
    - Record keeping of all Fertility and Pesticide applications
    - Irrigation system repair, troubleshooting and recordkeeping
    - Irrigation system operation and programming
    - Pump station maintenance and operation
    - Irrigation system winterization
    - Golf course set up
    - Staff interviewing and training

    - Scouting the golf course for Disease pathogens, insect pests and drought stressed turfgrass areas   and coordinating corrective measures.

    - Assisting in the Cultural maintenance programs on the course.
    - Assisting the Mechanic when time permits
    - Winter on course work and snow removal when applicable.

    - Assist the Superintendent with the daily duty rosters of the Summer Caddy Scholar Program.

    The ideal candidate will have:

    - A minimum of a A.S. Degree in plant/soil sciences or Turfgrass
      management degree
    - 3 years experience of increasing responsibility of Golf Course
      Maintenance at a golf course in the Northern part of the US with Cool
      season turfgrass experience.
    - Have or be able to obtain with 90 Days of Hire, a Massachusetts
      Category 37 Commercial Pesticide Applicator license.
    - Must be upon date of hire, a FULL TIME RESIDENT of the City of Boston.
    - Ablity to pass A City of Boston Physical Exam and Cori background
      check.
    - Be self -motivated, have some hands on experience with irrigation
      repair, fertility and pesticide applications, and a solid general knowledge
      of safe the operation of most Golf Course Maintenance equipment.
    - Some overtime is to be expected, primarily during the busiest months of
      the season (May 1st until October 1St)
    - Some Spanish language skills are a big plus
    - Personnel management experience a plus.
