    GreatHorse is a family-owned and extremely high-end, private full-service country club located on 232 acres in Hampden, Massachusetts near Springfield, Massachusetts and Hartford, Connecticut. This premier property opened in June 2015 after an expansive rebuild of the golf course and construction of a 30,000 sq.ft. clubhouse.     Experience Desired:

    Duties Description:
    Under the Superintendent's supervision, the 2nd Assistant Superintendent helps manage the golf course maintenance and clubhouse grounds departments’ day-to-day activities through maintaining high quality standards, developing and retaining maintenance employees, and exceeding member expectations.

    The 2nd Assistant Superintendent assists in the planning, scheduling, and supervising the construction and maintenance of: putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and associated support facilities. He/she supervises repair and maintenance of all golf course equipment and instructs equipment operators in the safe, efficient operation and care of all equipment. The Assistant Superintendent supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems. He/she also assists in personnel management of the maintenance staff and is responsible for scheduling and supervising maintenance work to achieve the most effective utilization of workers and equipment.

    The 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and may serve in the Superintendent's capacity during his/her absence. The successful candidate must be a strong leader and team player with logical and effective decision-making skills to manage accordingly and in alignment with the direction set by the Superintendent.

    The Wenham Country Club is an old club with roots over 100 years old. Founded and owned by the Tarr family since 1899, the club is one of the oldest clubs on the north shore of Massachusetts. As a semi private club, we are always busy and enjoy an extensive tournament and outing schedule.     Over the past 100 years the course has been continuously updated and changed, starting with 9 holes in 1899 and the addition of 9 more in 1924. The greens at the time were constructed as native soil push up greens. Today there are a mix of several USGA spec greens and the original native soil greens. Each of the 18 holes are tight and challenging with 2.5 acres of POA/Bent greens, 1 acre of tees, and 13 acres of fairways.

    Duties Description:
    The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent in coming up with and implementing a sound agronomic program for the facility.  He/she will be relied on for the training, supervising and participating in the daily operations of the grounds crew.  He/she should also be prepared to work long hours including weekends and holidays. Other responsibilities will include syringing, irrigation repair, course set-up, equipment maintenance and assisting in fertilizer/pesticide calibration/application when needed. Must have a valid driver's license and able to obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicators License within 90 days.

    Facility Description: Founded in 1895, Wollaston Golf Club (WGC) is a private, member owned 18-hole golf club located in Milton, Massachusetts.  Wollaston features dining facilities, function rooms, a championship 18 hole Fazio designed/constructed golf course (one of his first), swimming pool and four outdoor tennis courts. The club is currently undergoing a ten plus million dollar club house and golf building renovation/new build which will include new men’s and women's locker rooms, golf pro shop, fitness facility, two golfing simulators w snack/refreshment bar, and new dinning/function facilities.

    The parkland style layout of WGC's golf course consists of 2.5 acres of bent/poa greens, 2 acres of bent grass tees, 22 acres of bent/poa fairways, 2 acres of natural/minimal maintenance areas and 1 acre of annual planting beds. WGC has a Toro irrigation system with a pump house consisting of a flowtronix pump station with three horizontal 500gpm pumps.  The maintenance staff consists of the superintendent, two assistant superintendents, head mechanic, irrigation/construction crew foreman, three fulltime laborers, and twelve part time/fulltime seasonal laborers. We are currently in talks with ez go and club car regarding our next fleet of maintenance vehicles. The mowing/cultural equipment fleet consists mainly of Toro products.        

    Experience Desired: One to Two years working on a golf course

    Duties Description: WGC has an extremely progressive membership who demand championship caliber golf course conditioning on a daily basis.  The second assistant will work with the lead assistant superintendent, crew, and superintendent in order to meet the expectations of WGC's membership. Daily duties will include but are not limited to crew supervision and scheduling, moisture monitoring/hand watering, course set up, mowing practices, irrigation maintenance/repair, and chemical/fertilizer applications. This is a great opportunity to couple hands-on experience with preliminary administrative responsibilities. The second assistant will be highly involved with the maintenance and repair of the irrigation system and, under the supervision of the lead assistant superintendent and superintendent, will be appointed the responsibility of managing the irrigation maint/repair budget line item.
