    Description

    Weston Golf Club is a private 18 hole golf course with a driving range, pool, tennis courts, and Clubhouse facilities. The course was designed by Donald Ross in the late 1890’s and is located approximately 15 miles west of Boston, MA.

    Qualifications

    The individual must have or be working towards an Associates or Bachelors degree in turfgrass or related field and have the ability to obtain a Mass pesticide applicator’s license.

    The individual is expected to be highly motivated in the turf industry, possess a strong work ethic, be a team player, and have a good understanding of the game.

    Responsibilities

    You will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance including but not limited to:
    • Irrigation and maintenance of a new Rain Bird Cirrus System
    • Monitoring the golf course for infectious disease and any potential playability issues
    • Possess or capable of learning water management skills (concentration on hand watering)
    • Assist in training and safety programs as well as supervision and management
    • Safety coordination and communication
    • Responsible for chemical/fertilizer calibration, application, records maintenance, and inventory
    • Course setup

    Compensation

    Salary will be determined by experience and abilities, with a starting point of $50,000 annual salary.  Benefits include health insurance, retirement savings plan, annual vacation/sick time and paid dues for local and national turfgrass associations and educational seminars. Employer allows annual uniform expense, meals, as well as golf privileges.

    Facility Name: The Muttontown Golf Club

    Facility Description: The Muttontown Club is an 18-hole private country club established in 1962 and located on the north shore of Long Island, 30 minutes from Manhattan. The position of Assistant Superintendent is very expansive; the selected candidate will be exposed to all aspects of golf course maintenance, from daily tasks all the way up to project planning, etc. Upcoming projects include things such as installation of greens drainage, bunker renovation, tee construction, greens expansion, as well as many more in following years.     Experience Desired: Two to Three years as 2nd or Assistant Superintendent

    Duties Description: Duties include, but are not limited to:
    -coordinating with Superintendent and team members to accomplish daily tasks in an efficient manner
    -disease/pest scouting and determining appropriate solutions
    -irrigation monitoring and maintenance in accordance with turf needs
    -assist in proper and continued crew training
    -record keeping and being accountable for supplies/ordering
    -daily agronomic practices such as: mowing, rolling, spraying, fertilizing, handwatering, etc.

    Compensation / Benefits: $60 - $70,000 DOE with on-site housing, meals, dues for local and national associations, uniforms and bonus.

    Education Level Required: Minimum of Associate’s degree from two-year college/technical school – will consider “short-course” turf certificate if accompanied with satisfactory field experience

    Facility Name:        Wollaston Golf Club

    Facility Description: Founded in 1895, Wollaston Golf Club (WGC) is a private, member owned 18-hole golf club located in Milton, Massachusetts.  Wollaston features dining facilities, function rooms, a championship 18 hole Fazio designed/constructed golf course (one of his first), swimming pool and four outdoor tennis courts. The club is currently undergoing a ten plus million dollar club house and golf building renovation/new build which will include new men’s and women's locker rooms, golf pro shop, fitness facility, two golfing simulators w snack/refreshment bar, and new dinning/function facilities.

    The parkland style layout of WGC's golf course consists of 2.5 acres of bent/poa greens, 2 acres of bent grass tees, 22 acres of bent/poa fairways, 2 acres of natural/minimal maintenance areas and 1 acre of annual planting beds. WGC has a Toro irrigation system with a pump house consisting of a flowtronix pump station with three horizontal 500gpm pumps.  The maintenance staff consists of the superintendent, two assistant superintendents, head mechanic, irrigation/construction crew foreman, three fulltime laborers, and twelve part time/fulltime seasonal laborers. We are currently in talks with ez go and club car regarding our next fleet of maintenance vehicles. The mowing/cultural equipment fleet consists mainly of Toro products.        

    Experience Desired: One to Two years working on a golf course

    Duties Description: WGC has an extremely progressive membership who demand championship caliber golf course conditioning on a daily basis.  The second assistant will work with the lead assistant superintendent, crew, and superintendent in order to meet the expectations of WGC's membership. Daily duties will include but are not limited to crew supervision and scheduling, moisture monitoring/hand watering, course set up, mowing practices, irrigation maintenance/repair, and chemical/fertilizer applications. This is a great opportunity to couple hands-on experience with preliminary administrative responsibilities. The second assistant will be highly involved with the maintenance and repair of the irrigation system and, under the supervision of the lead assistant superintendent and superintendent, will be appointed the responsibility of managing the irrigation maint/repair budget line item.

    Special Skills: Applicant must have their MA pesticide core license or have the ability to obtain one within three months of hire.  

    Compensation / Benefits: Salaried position with Club 70/30 health care plan, club 401k, meals when club restaurant is open, uniforms, vacation time, paid dues to local and national associations, continuing education, golfing privileges, performance and holiday end of year bonuses.

    Experience Desired: Candidate must have a Massachusetts pesticide license or ability to acquire one within six months.  This is a perfect job for a 2nd Assistant or technician whom is looking to make the next step.
