Belmont Country Club is seeking a motivated and driven Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join an engaged, forward-thinking agronomy team. This is a hands-on role designed for someone who wants to grow, lead, and be deeply involved in the day-to-day decision-making that goes into producing elite playing conditions. You will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent, Equipment Manager, and fellow assistants in a collaborative environment that values education, innovation, teamwork, and pride in craftsmanship. Experience Desired:
• An optimistic, self-motivated professional with a sense of urgency coinciding with strong attention to detail. • A strong understanding of the game of golf and how course conditions impact playability. • Two or more years of golf course maintenance experience with proven record of increased responsibility. • A degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required for the right candidate. • Active GCSAA membership or the ability to obtain membership. • A Massachusetts pesticide applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days. • Solid agronomic knowledge, including plant health, water management, and soil science. • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with equipment. • Strong communication skills and a desire to lead, learn, and advance.
Responsibilities Include:
• Assist in planning and executing daily maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers. • Play a key role in agronomic programs including chemical and fertilizer applications, aeration, seeding, topdressing, and course setup. • Operate, calibrate, and maintain spray and fertilizer equipment with a strong focus on safety and precision. • Supervise, train, and mentor crew members while helping build a positive, accountable team culture. • Monitor irrigation performance and water usage, supporting efficient water management and conservation practices. • Conduct regular course inspections, identify issues early, and help implement solutions. • Maintain accurate records for pesticide applications, inventory, and regulatory compliance. • Assist with budgeting, purchasing, and long-term planning. • Be a visible leader on the course and a trusted partner within the agronomy team.
Compensation & Benefits:

Qualifications
2–5 years of progressive golf course maintenance experience, ideally at an assistant level. Certificate or degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred. Strong leadership, organization, and staff-management abilities. Experience with irrigation systems, chemical/fertilizer applications, and equipment operation. Ability to build and implement SOPs and structured workflows. Rhode Island pesticide/structural pest control licensure or ability to obtain within 90 days. Commitment to quality conditioning, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities Oversee and participate in daily golf course maintenance, ensuring top-tier playing conditions. Supervise and operate pumps, irrigation systems, drainage systems, and associated computer controls. Lead, schedule, train, and supervise grounds staff; resolve staffing and workflow needs. Complete office tasks including filing, recordkeeping, inventory management, and time record maintenance. Apply and oversee applications of fertilizers and chemicals; maintain proper documentation and compliance. Perform structural pest control and maintain a valid Structural Pest Control Applicator license; complete required continuing education. Operate and supervise heavy equipment (front-end loaders, backhoe, trencher) safely and efficiently. Monitor course conditions and recommend agronomic adjustments related to moisture, fertility, and pest pressure. Assist with irrigation repair, moisture management, and system updates. Coordinate with pro shop staff to ensure course readiness for daily play and tournaments, including in the Superintendent’s absence. Develop and maintain SOPs for all recurring maintenance tasks and operational processes. Support projects including drainage improvements, bunker work, and renovation initiatives. Promote a high-service, team-oriented culture; communicate effectively with staff, members, and community stakeholders. Maintain consistent on-site attendance per policy. Other duties as assigned.
Compensation & Benefits: $50,000-$70,000. Housing may be included in compensation.
