PositionSummary:

 

The Horticulturist position is a critical role with the responsibility of assisting the Operations Manager with department operations and leading, overseeing, training, coaching, and assisting the irrigation crew members with the installation, maintenance, and repairs of irrigation systems. The Horticulturist may assist in developing existing client accounts, identifying new business opportunities, and executing sales.

 

This position will be full-time from April 1st to December 1st, with the possibility of having continuous employment during the off-season. This position will have the ability to work OT.

 

Responsibilities Include:

 

• Identify, diagnose, and treat insect, disease, physiological, and cultural conditions, selecting the most appropriate product/treatment to be utilized for each problem.
• Assess and complete diagnostic reports and provide comprehensive, thorough information to create an ideal environment for the optimum health of the landscape.
• Calibrate and use spray and application equipment, including rider spreader.
• Assist crew members in the event of absence, behind schedule, warranty work, snow operations, and as needed.
• Seek additional opportunities from new and existing customers, as well as initiate follow-up on current, future, and past bids in order to secure work and create a company backlog.
• Participate and practice safety and attend weekly safety meetings.

Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or related equivalent discipline or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of tree and shrub species adapted to temperature zones 4 & 6 and native to Eastern US.
• Ability to work well with clients and team members.
• Knowledge of all safety practices.
• Strong map reading skills.
• Ability to operate and train others on equipment used in daily operations.
• Proficient in customer database and Excel.
• Valid Driver’s License, Pesticide License, Hydraulic License, and DOT Medical Card.
• Ability to drive non-CDL trucks and trailers or obtain a CDL if necessary.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Must be able to read, write, and perform math.
• Ability to use tablets, digital cameras, and computers.
