Position Description: The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent to assess and improve the health, quality, and maintenance of our golf course turf and landscaping. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with an in-depth understanding of agronomy, strong time management skills, and a passion for elevating the quality of our property and in enhancing our commitment to excellence in course maintenance and member satisfaction. This position provides an excellent opportunity for hands-on experience as part of a collaborative and experienced golf course management and turf maintenance team. The Assistant Superintendent will help oversee daily operations, including turf management, plant health product applications, water management, staff supervision, and equipment maintenance. This role requires active leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to delivering a premier golf experience.
Position Qualifications: Bachelor’s or Associate's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course management, with experience in chemical and fertilizer application, hand watering, course setup, and leading small projects preferred. Strong understanding of agronomic practices, plant health, and soil science. Possess, or have the ability to obtain a Vermont pesticide applicator’s license within 90 days of employment. Knowledge of irrigation system operation, maintenance, and programming. Mechanical ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and repair. Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Position Requirements and Responsibilities:
• Candidate must be self-motivated, with a strong sense of urgency, and a high degree of attention to detail.
• Must possess a strong foundation in Turfgrass Agronomy.
• Assist in planning daily maintenance on the golf course and across the property, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, practice area, croquet court, club and tennis landscaping, and staff residences.
• Assist with execution of agronomic plans, course setup and preparation, aeration and other cultural practices, fertilizer and plant health applications, and irrigation management.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain plant health application equipment.
• Assist in safe and effective training of staff as needed, and provide coaching and corrective action if necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of plant health applications, inventory, water use, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
• Be a visible presence on the property, monitoring course conditions and making adjustments as necessary.
• Promote a collaborative and positive environment among the maintenance team.
Salary and Benefits: $68,000-$72,500 Ekwanok Country Club offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance with an HSA contribution, paid time off, potential for on-site housing, retirement plan, and annual bonus. Uniforms and lunch are provided, and golfing privileges are offered as the golf calendar allows.
