Position / Title:      Assistant Superintendent

Facility Description: 9 Hole Private.  Situated in Blackstone Valley, 45 miles west of Boston, the 9-hole course at Whitinsville Golf Cub is an authentic Donald Ross design from the mid 1920's. Whitinsville has long been considered one of the finest 9-hole courses in the county, annually ranking in the top 100 classic courses in the country. Whitinsville is virtually flawless, a master work of a master designer. Ross brought his best to Whitinsville from the first tee to the ninth green.

Experience Desired: 3+ years working with Golf Course Maintenance

Duties Description:  The Assistant Superintendent role at Whitinsville Golf Club offers applicants a broad look at all aspects that go into Golf Course Management. Together the Superintendent and the Assistant take care of all major components that go into tournament quality conditions, from reel sharpening, fixing irrigation issues, and chemical applications. Without a strong team the conditions of the golf course will suffer.  The Assistant Superintendent is the first form of communication from staff to the Superintendent. The ideal candidate must have team building personality and the ability to motivate staff to continue producing expected work quality, by using their own passion, drive and hard work as motivation.

A tee construction project is scheduled to begin in the early months of the season. This will be an in-house project the grounds department is excited to complete, and a great opportunity for the new Assistant to complete a big project in their early weeks of employment. More projects are on the agenda as we plan to complete our course renovation plan by year 2022

The Assistant Superintendent will work directly with the Superintendent to form daily, weekly, and monthly agronomic plans.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Superintendent with achieving Agronomic goals
  • Leading day to day operations by communicating Daily assignments while also telling staff big picture plans (Short- and Long-term goals)
  • Leading and Managing staff in the field
  • Chemical Applications
  • Irrigation Repair
  • Equipment Maintenance

Daily Responsibilities

  • Golf Course Set-Up
  • Hand Watering shortgrass playing surfaces
  • Mowing

Special Skills: Chemical Applications, Irrigation and Watering Maintenance, Mechanical Experience

Compensation / Benefits: $40,000-$50,000 DOE, WGC pays 50% of your health insurance coverage obtained through the Mass Health Connector (reimbursement not to exceed $300.00/month by club), Membership dues Paid, Licensing renewals Paid

Education Level Required: Degree or Certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field
