Grounds Department Assistant Superintendent (AS)

The Country Club was established in 1882 and is located just 4 miles from downtown Boston. Nestled on 236 acres of land, the Club has over 250,000 square feet of building space. In addition to 27 holes of championship golf, the Club maintains dining rooms, event facilities, a fitness center, indoor and outdoor tennis, paddle tennis, swimming and diving, skeet shooting, curling, cross country skiing, and ice skating. Throughout the years, The Country Club has played host to a Ryder Cup, several USGA events at both the professional and amateur level and numerous Massachusetts State Championships. In June of 2022, The Country Club will host the 122nd U.S. Open Championship.

In preparation for the U.S. Open, we are working closely with Golf Course Architect Gil Hanse, on course-wide enhancements and master plan improvements. As a member of the Grounds Department, you will be involved in all facets of golf course maintenance and operations, including in-house construction projects.

The AS reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, Senior Assistants and Director of Grounds.

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Leading and managing all aspects of a large-scale grounds operation
• Involvement in daily operations and management meetings
• Working with the leadership team to maintain a culture that results in successful, career-oriented, professionals
• Daily responsibilities include:
o Mowing of greens, tees, fairways and roughs | Bunker maintenance | Hazard maintenance | Tree maintenance | Aerification | Divot filling | Trim work | Course set up | Drainage work | Hand watering | Construction work | Equipment setup | Shop maintenance
• All other tasks involved in the daily upkeep of a private championship golf course

Education and Experience Requirements:

• Turf Grass Management degree or related field
• Minimum of two years golf course maintenance experience is preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
