Position / Title:             2nd Assistant Superintendent

Facility Description: Nashawtuc Country Club is currently implementing the bunker reconstruction phase of a Rees Jones Master Plan, with a new irrigation system and pump station to be installed in the fall of 2019. Tee reconstruction will be ongoing over the next several years.  A full clubhouse renovation/reconstruction is also underway.

Club amenities include: 18 hole golf course and practice facility, 6 tennis courts, 3 paddle tennis courts, swimming pool and fitness center. In the winter months, the grounds team maintains cross-country ski trails through the golf course, as well as an ice skating rink.

Experience Desired: 2-3 years of golf course experience preferred. Experience with granular and spray application of fertilizer/pesticides

Duties Description: The Second Assistant Superintendent position is a working assistant’s position. This individual will have management responsibilities as well as daily assignments. This position is very important to our operations as a leader to the rest of the staff. The Second Assistant will be asked to play an active role in training the grounds staff in our standard operating procedures as well as safety regulations. This individual’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Managing up to 25 people

-Assist Director of Grounds and Assistant Superintendent(s) and with the
 supervision of all daily operations

-Assist Director of Grounds and Assistant Superintendent(s) with the training of
 entire staff in standard operating procedures and safety

-Become an active member of GCSANE and GCSAA

-Seek continuing education in Turfgrass Management.

-Responsible for all daily operations during the absence of the Director of
 Grounds and the Assistant Superintendent(s)

-Perform and train individuals on the calibration and application of fertilizers and

-Become familiar with the operation of the Irrigation Pump Station and have a
 working knowledge of start up and winterization procedures

-Training of staff members on equipment operation

-Heavy equipment operation

-Assist the Director of Grounds and Assistant Superintendent(s) with the
 monitoring of soil moisture on all surfaces of the golf course

-Hand watering

-Become familiar with programming and monitoring of the irrigation control

- Responsible for being able to scout for, and report, any pest problems present
  on the property

- Administrative duties such as placing orders or calling vendors to inquire about
  product pricing

-Overseeing outside contractors

-Become familiar with the location devices used to locate underground utilities

-Playing an active role in the upkeep of the club’s Audubon Certification

-May be asked to perform any task that is part of our operations

-Snow plowing/snow removal

Special Skills: The Second Assistant should be willing to work extensive hours during the summer months. Ability to learn fast and move up within the organization is a must. This position requires a hard working, dedicated, and highly motivated individual who wants to learn and eventually become a superintendent. MA pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain one within 60 days is a must.

Education Level Required: Some type of educational background in turf/agronomy preferred (4 yr, 2 yr or short course), but consideration will be made for quality employment history in the golf industry
