Vesper Country Club is seeking applicants for an open Assistant Superintendent Position. Established in 1875, Vesper Country Club is an 18-hole private golf course that is home to the first Massachusetts Open in 1905, won by golfer and course designer, Donald Ross. In 2009, the greens were rebuilt to USGA specifications with A1/A4 bentgrass along with a complete bunker renovation.
Experience Desired:
· 1-3 years of golf course maintenance experience demonstrating increasing responsibility
· Experience supervising others and leading a team, preferred
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
· Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
· Possess a valid Massachusetts pesticide applicator license or the ability to obtain one in first 90 days of employment
· Valid driver’s license
Duties Description:
The Assistant Superintendent will be part of the management team and will work closely with the Senior Assistant and Golf Course Superintendent to plan and implement all aspects of golf course maintenance. The Assistant Superintendent must be a team player who is self-motivated with a strong work ethic. The ideal candidate is interested in continuing their professional development and furthering their career in the golf course industry. Continuing education is supported and encouraged by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Position Responsibilities:
· Assist with daily course set-up and maintenance of the golf course
· Recruit, train and supervise seasonal staff
· Train personnel in the safe and efficient operation of all equipment
· Ensure equipment is properly stored and cleaned on a daily basis
· Assist in water management through irrigation scheduling and monitoring
· Participate in chemical and fertilizer applications and calibrations
· Conduct disease and pest monitoring
· Assist in course construction projects
· Install and troubleshoot irrigation issues
· Snow removal and plowing
Compensation / Benefits: $60,000-$70,000 annual salary, 70/30 spilt health benefits, 401k and company match of 4%, paid local and national dues, employee meals (in season), uniform allowance, 2 weeks of vacation time, one week of sick time, holiday bonus, golfing privileges.
Education Requirements: Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field is desired
