    Position:                    Mechanic

    Facility Description: Established in 1998 and designed by Brian Silva, Acushnet River Valley is an 18 hole municipal golf course owned and operated by the Town of Acushnet.  Located in Southeastern Massachusetts, the facility includes a 5,000-square footturf care center, a practice range, and annual rounds of 32 to 35,000 during a 10 month season from mid-March through mid-December.

    Qualifications:  Working knowledge of light and heavy turf maintenance equipment and automotive apparatuses. Working knowledge of reel, bedknife and rotary blade sharpening and the use of reel grinding equipment. Skill in the use of a variety of equipment repair tools, and the making of various types of mechanical repair. Working knowledge of the theory, care, and operation of internal combustion engines and mowing equipment. Both gasoline and diesel engines. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession. Ability to move heavy objects. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work. Ability to communicate effectively and keep business records. Knowledge of the game of golf and an understanding of how his/her job performance affects playing conditions of the golf  course. Possession of a valid driver's license.

    Duties:  The mechanic reports to the golf course superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program for turf care equipment and golf cart fleet. Inspects, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects/failures in various golf course mowing and maintenance equipment including, diesel, electric, and gasoline engines and powered equipment, hydraulics and hydraulic systems, trucks, trenchers, sweepers, rollers, and other mechanical equipment used in golf course maintenance work. Sharpens all mowing equipment blades, reels, and bedknifes and is responsible for their daily inspection to ensure the highest quality of cut.  Instructs and/or trains golf course maintenance workers regarding preventive maintenance, and the proper cleaning and safe operation of equipment. Keeps a complete set of records for equipment and parts inventory purchases, equipment conditions, equipment hours, costs of repairs and preventive maintenance for all equipment.

    Compensation:  Salary range at $45,000 to $50,000 (negotiable and commensurate with experience). Medical and dental insurance, life Insurance, paid vacation and sick days, retirement program, expenses paid for local educational seminars, uniform provided.

    Position / Title:            Turf Specialist

    Facility Description: Expansive, multi-hundred-acre estate

    Experience Desired: Degree or certification in turf/grass management or equivalent work experience.

    Duties Description: Seeking a full-time Turf Specialist for the property of a prominent family. This is a year-round position with excellent salary.

    The Turf Specialist will use horticultural best practices to maintain turf and lawns at an exceptional aesthetic level.  The Turf Specialist is expected to comply with state and federal laws, as well as all estate policies and procedures.  We expect all staff of the estate to work safely and effectively, both individually and as part of the team, to achieve the goals set by Team Leaders and Estate Owners.  Additionally, we expect all of our staff to promote a positive professional work culture and adhere to the estate conduct policy at all times in order to ensure a standard of excellence. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Mow, roll, aerate, top-dress, and monitor croquet court and sports turf.
    • Daily maintenance and monitoring of Har-Tru tennis court  Schedule, lead, and supervise the mowing, string trimming, edging, and aeration of all turf areas.
    • Maintain equipment at the highest level of care in order to maximize efficiency and longevity.
    • Maintain healthy soils through soil testing, fertilizer applications, and topdressing.
    • Monitor for pests and diseases and implement IPM strategies.
    • Assist Horticultural Manager in record keeping, supervising, and training seasonal staff.
    • Assist Horticultural Manager in scheduling and prioritizing work.
    • Report all incidents or injuries to Horticulture Manager or General Manager.
    • Work closely with all staff to ensure outstanding communication.
    • Work with the team to achieve set goals.
    • Maintain a professional, clean, uniformed appearance at all times.

    Special Skills:

    • Knowledge of different turf species with basic biology, care, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge and experience operating and maintaining turf-related equipment.
    • Ability to supervise and lead a seasonal staff of two or more people.
    • Ability and desire to learn operation, repairs and maintenance of irrigation system.
    • Prior knowledge of irrigation systems a plus.
    • Has or is willing to obtain a 3B Turf Pesticide Applicator’s License.
    • Exceptional communication skills.

    Physical Demands:  Must be able to stand, walk, bend over, squat, kneel and lift during shift.  Position will require the individual to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
